Western New York Chamber Orchestra-Le Nozze Di Figaro
About this Event
Rockefeller Arts Center, Fredonia, NY 14063
One of the greatest operas ever written will be performed in concert by the Western New York Chamber Orchestra in collaboration with the Hillman Opera.
“Le nozze di Figaro,” an opera in four acts, features a wide range of vocal performances. In addition to gorgeous arias, it includes duets, trios, quartets, quintets, sextets and even a septet in the finale of Act II. Highlights include “Non pui andrai” and “Voi che sapete.”
Eleven of Fredonia's talented student vocalists comprise the cast for this Mozart opera.
They are: Jackson Kelly (Figaro), Mia Sorgi (Susanna), Gabrielle Gance (Countess), Dominic Townsend (Count), Danai Kalpaki (Cherubino), Kaitlin Owen (Marcellina), Carter Converse (Bartolo), Adrian Otero (Antonio), Andrew George (Don Basilio), Zachary Formhals (Don Curzio), and Lauren Shilansky (Barbarina).
Instrumentally, the opera features a fast-paced overture with strings and bassoons in the spotlight.
Mozart wrote “Le Nozze di Figaro” in six weeks and its debut came in Vienna in 1786. Subtitled “A Day of Follies,” the libretto is based Beaumarchais’ 1784 comedy “The Mad Day.” It follows the events on the wedding day of Figaro and Susanna.
