SUNY Geneseo is hosting a virtual session on their PostHUMNPlus Study Abroad program in Italy.
PostHUMNplus is an affordable, integrative experience in Study Abroad or Study Away. Students who have completed a HUMN 220 or 221 will propose a program of study that leverages the required readings and writing of their HUMN course and applies them to task of being a learned traveler.
While on the road in Italy, the class will experience an intensive exposure to local culture. Most of our class time will be spent in museums, historic monuments, civic space, and festivals. Students will engage in written and spoken reflection. We will explore questions of intercultural competence and seek to transcend the agenda of the typical tourist, embracing travel as a transformative endeavor.
The course is designed to provide the maximum contact with the resources in situ as a pathway for students to deepen the critical skills articulated in the formal Learning Outcomes for Western Humanities I & 2. The students will engage in collaborative exploration of how the intellectual currents studied in our Humanities requirement manifest themselves in the interplay of art, architecture, music, food, government, religion, and the daily routines of Tuscan ben comune in our time.
