The schedule in brief:

  • 8:00 - 9:00 am: Informal Networking & Morning Refreshments (Williams Center Multipurpose Room)
  • 9:00 am - 12:00 pm: Featured Workshop with Convocation Speaker, Dr. Amer Ahmed, as well as Breakout Sessions for Faculty & Staff 
  • 12:00 - 1:30 pm: Lunch & Faculty Panel Discussion
  • 1:00 - 2:30 pm: New York State Citizen Disaster Preparedness Program
  • 1:45 - 3:00 pm: Fredonia Foundations Breakout Sessions
  • 2:00 - 3:00 pm: Zumba with Paul Mockovak
  • 3:00 - 4:00 pm: Department Meetings (Watch for details on these activities from your chairs, deans and department heads.)

Focus on Fredonia Foundations: During lunch, hear about one department's approach to course development in Fredonia Foundations.  Afternoon concurrent sessions will feature presentations by colleagues who have put courses through the approval process in the theme areas. Information about resources available for course development will also be provided.  Throughout the day members of the Fredonia Foundations Curriculum Committee will be available to consult on your course proposals-- watch for details on how to sign up for a consultation.

Cultivating Inclusive Learning Environments: Teaching & Communication Strategies

As educational institutions continue to cultivate strategies to create diverse and inclusive climates, there has been increased focus on student learning experiences both inside and outside classroom.  This workshop will be an opportunity for faculty and staff to engage the core intercultural skills that strengthen their ability to facilitate learning in diverse classrooms and campus environments.  In addition, faculty and staff will consider what cultural assumptions often exist in learning settings and how to engage in strategies that can create a more equitable and student-centered environments.  Finally, faculty and staff will explore how to facilitate difficult conversations and other methods that support dynamic and inclusive learning environments for students.

Participants are encouraged to attend all or part of the day. Activities and presentations will enable participants to connect with one another while exploring different ways of thinking about teaching, learning and working. No classes are scheduled on Professional Development Day.  Lunch will be provided for registered participants.
