Politics and journalism have become blood sports to many in America today, but they don’t have to be that way. Join Writers@Work for a discussion with alumnus Jim Ranney about how the press and government officials can communicate with each other and with the public in pursuit of the public good. Jim Ranney is the current communications director for NY State Senator Patrick M. Gallivan (59th district) and former station manager and director of news for WBFO-Radio & WNED-TV in Buffalo. He will be joined by his son Joshua, president of the Student Association (Journalism/Political Science, ’19). Elmer Ploetz, associate professor of communication at SUNY Fredonia, will moderate and emcee the discussion. The talk will cover writing and communicating for the media and will be followed by a Q&A.
Attendees can expect a chance to learn about writing for new mediums, and free food!
