Homecoming 2017 marks the 60th anniversary of the Hillman Opera, the second annual Mini Maker Faire, recognition of all of the honored classes -- especially the Classes of 1957, 1962, and 1967, a Celebration of former faculty member, Ann Carden’s life, the Ruterbusch 5K Run (in memory of Fred Ruterbusch ’77), spectacular concerts, great athletic contests,  and a host of other special events.  Helen (Tinch) Williams ‘60 (Music Education) will be recognized for her outstanding achievement at the Homecoming Excellence Gala Dinner, on Friday, Oct. 20.

Also on Friday, there will be a special Golden Graduate Breakfast for all alums from 1967 and before. At noon there will be a free concert in Reed Library -- with a special reception immediately following honoring Helen (Tinch) Williams ’60.   Later, after the Gala Dinner, plan to attend the special Hillman 60th Anniversary Alumni Concert in King Concert Hallor the student performance of Peter and the Star Catchersin Marvel Theater. (Tickets may be purchased by contacting the Campus Ticket Office at: after Aug. 22, or by calling (716)-673-3501.) The annual free 1970’s Reunion Jazz Concert is scheduled in Rosch Recital Hall.

The Mini Maker Faire, to be held in both the Williams Center and the Science Center on Saturday, will celebrate creativity, invention, and the do-it-yourself (DIY) spirit.   There will be a diverse mix of Makers, ranging from tech enthusiasts to crafters, homesteaders to scientists, and garage tinkerers to kids who design and build interesting items. Admission is free.

Please plan to attend the many wonderful athletic contests and events scheduled this year. On Saturday, the Ruterbusch 5K will commence at 9 AM, at the Steele Hall Indoor Track. The traditional Men’s Alumni Soccer game will be held at 10 AM.   At 11 AM, there will be a special reception and ceremony honoring retiring Athletic Director, Greg Prechtl ’69 and his wife, Linda (Ferry) Prechtl ’71 in Steele Hall. The Men’s Hockey Team will play a scrimmage match against SUNY Buffalo State at 12:30 PM.   And at 1 PM, the Men’s Soccer Team plays SUNY Oneonta.

Additional special events include a wonderful Freedonia Marxonia exhibit in Reed Library and a not-to-be-missed Harvey Breverman: A Decade of Drawing exhibit in the Marion Art Gallery, a Leadership Program Reunion (for former students of Jim Sturm, Bob Mead-Colegrove, and Mark Suida), along with a Fredonia Graduate Degree Alumni Reception ( both on Saturday afternoon).  The Radio Station received special recognition this past year (see separate article) so be sure to stop in at the panel discussion on Saturday at 1 PM.

In addition to the Reunion Jazz Ensemble, there will be a Fredonia Percussion Celebration, at 4 PM, on Saturday in Rosch Recital Hall. Additional theater performances are slated for both Saturday and Sunday.

The Classes of 1967 and 2007 will celebrate anniversaries with other specially designated  events.  For all of the other honored classes – the Classes of 1972, 1977, 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, and 2002, there will be an Honored Class Multi-Reception held in the Williams Center Multi-Purpose Room from 4 – 6 PM, on Saturday.  Complimentary light refreshments and a cash beer/wine bar will be available. Look for your respective area.  Specific downtown establishments will be designated for further opportunities in which to gather later that evening. Look for the location assignments at the Homecoming Registration Table.
