The Fredonia Percussion Guild presents Professor Alex Smith (ethnologist and researcher) and Ghanaian gyil performance artist Dorwana Tijan in this documentary film/awareness presentation, with musical performance addressing sustainability in Ghana as it pertains to the wood we use for djembe drums and the gyil (xylophone), specifically.
Smith and Tijan will present their information through musical idioms, addressing issues of deforestation, the moving south of the Sahara desert, effects on climate change, and a direct impact on food supply and climate change, such as hurricane development in the Atlantic, etc. Additionally, Dorwana shares some innovative ways that he is working with wood conservation.
