This event features performances of Dr. Coleman’s music performed by the Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Emily Schaad. In addition, the concert will include the 2nd Symphony by Peter Tchaikovsky as well as movements from Francis Poulenc’s Concerto for Two Pianos with Concerto Competition Winners Aaron Mecham and Boaz Mecham. 

About the Sorel Visiting Artist Residency: Internationally renowned composer Dr. VALERIE COLEMAN visits SUNY Fredonia in her first residency as our 2023-2024 Sorel Visiting Artist. Highlighted as one of the “Top 35 Women Composers” by The Washington Post, she was named Performance Today’s 2020 Classical Woman of the Year, Valerie Coleman is regarded by many as an iconic artist who continues to pave her own unique path as a composer, Grammy-nominated flutist, and entrepreneur. She will be on campus from October 12-14, 2023 to work with our students and community through performances of her music, panel discussions, workshops, and more. These events are made possible thanks to a generous gift from The Sorel Charitable Organization, Inc.
