“Looking Beyond the Notation”: Utilizing Score Study to Unlock the Imagination and Find the Story within the Song

“Imaginative conductors study the score and envision sounds to match the notes, rhythms, and words they see on the page. They come to rehearsals ready to engage the music and the singers in a dynamic, energetic, focused, and efficient moment of music-making. Imaginative conductors are driven by their love of both the music and the people with whom they collaborate to make the music come alive.”  - Jerry Blackstone

Utilizing proven score study processes and careful attention to the ink on the page we can guide our imagination to unlock the craft of the composer and create the context, emotional character, and aural blueprint of the music before us to create the richest, most compelling musical experience possible.
