Fredonia Chamber Orchestra will take the Rosch stage on Wednesday, April 24th at 8pm. This orchestra, comprised of 25 strings, two flutes, and two horns, will perform Symphony No. 27 by W. A. Mozart, Conversations in Silence by Conni Ellisor, and Pizzicato by Ethos New Music Society Composer-in-Residence, Vivian Fung.
Fung’s Pizzicato is a short work for strings where players never use their bows. It is influenced by Chinese instruments pipa and qin as well as the Indonesian gamelan. The chamber orchestra will meet with the composer for feedback and coaching prior to the concert. Ellisor’s Conversations in Silence is written in four contrasting movements with a neo-classical structure and sounds from bluegrass, jazz, and other American vernacular musics. Mozart’s Symphony No. 27 is a lighthearted, forward-moving work in three movements, showing great influences from Italian symphonies and from Haydn.
