Focus on Forensics: Doing the Science & Communicating the Results Through Writing—Writers @ Work Series

Fredonia alumna, Dr. Lori Ana Valentín (Biochemistry '09), will be talking with current students about the importance of writing in all different areas of one's career.

“Writing skills are critical for effective communication, especially in science which relies heavily on communicating results through journal publications. At the crime lab, forensic scientists write reports that are used in criminal proceedings. They are also responsible for writing methods, appropriate documentation and record-keeping. With social distancing mandates during the pandemic, we leaned more on email which challenged us to sharpen our written communication skills. As a career consultant, I regularly contribute written content to the publication Industry Matters through the American Chemical Society. As a business owner, strong writing skills are critical for communicating with clients through my website, blogs, promotional material and correspondence."
