Faculty Recital: Lynne McMurtry, contralto and Alison d'Amato, piano

This event will also be live streamed:

Lynne McMurtry, contralto and Alison d'Amato, piano, present a varied recital program that celebrates the rich history of art song while bringing it firmly into our contemporary moment.  We begin with some of the cornerstone composers of lieder, such as Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, as well as their vibrant female contemporaries, such as Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.  The second half celebrates diverse voices of the 20th and 21st centuries: women poets, Black American female composers, indigenous and LGTBQ poets, Asian, and trans composers all are featured, in a rich musical tapestry that is wonderfully accented with elements of jazz and contemporary harmony...all topped off with a sly reworking of one of Haydn's most famous symphonies into an invective about pronouns.  A multiplicity of musical identities come together for a singularly enjoyable performance!
