SUNY Fredonia School of Music faculty members Dr. Madeline Harts and James Welch will present a Faculty Lecture Recital on the life and music of early 20th-century English-American composer, Clara Kathleen Rogers.
Almost lost to time and anonymity, Clara Kathleen Rogers was a singer, composer, and pedagogue active in Boston during the early 1900s. A friend and colleague to some of America's most well-known artists, including the likes of Amy Beach and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, Clara's music is now being rediscovered and examined for modern audiences. This lecture recital will feature the music of Rogers and begin an exploration of her art song repertory.
This recital is made possible by research completed by Dr. Madeline Harts through a 2020 Presser Foundation Music Grant at the Harvard University Houghton Archives.
