Canceled: Day of Poetry and Prose (and Song and Drama)

On Sunday, April 28, 2019, we will gather once again, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., in the Fredonia Technology Incubator, to celebrate great literature, Emeritus Professor Albert A. Dunn, and (for the first time) Emeritus Distinguished Teaching Professor Malcolm Nelson, who passed away last Christmas day, at the Day of Poetry and Prose (and Song and Drama). This is a unique opportunity to read, perform, or hear read your favorite poem or prose piece, along with the great literature and music loved and taught by Albert and Mac for decades. Please also consider adding your voice to the Catch Club's celebratation of Mac’s life in song from 3-5 p.m. in the Incubator. April is National Poetry Month, another reason to sing.

We are forever grateful for the support of colleagues, former students, and friends, old and new, whose generosity keeps Albert’s and Mac’s legacies alive. Come join the fun. This is a come and go, as you need to event. Light refreshments are served.

In memory of Mac, whose voice could be heard echoing through Fenton Hall from 1968 to 2007 (and in fact up through last fall, as he continued to attend United University Professions Chapter Executive Board meetings in retirement), please consider helping us grow the Mac Nelson Scholarship by making a charitable contribution. Gifts can be made online at by selecting the Mac Nelson Scholarship or Albert A. Dunn Scholarship, or by check payable to the Fredonia College Foundation with Mac Nelson or Albert A. Dunn written in the memo and mailed to Fredonia College Foundation, 272 Central Avenue, Fredonia, NY 14063.

With a donation you can dedicate a poem to the memory of, or in honor of, someone special. They will be notified of your thoughtfulness.

Thanks to your generosity the Dunn Memorial Scholarship is over $1,500, and the amount continues to grow. Over $4,000 in Book Grants have been awarded. New winners of both scholarships will be announced at the Day of Poetry and Prose (and Song and Drama) on April 28, 2019, and at the English Department Awards Ceremony on May 10, 2019.
