This colloquium demonstrates learning to action. Factors such as sex, age, race, substance abuse, family structure and past criminal behavior play a significant role in juvenile delinquency, but they don’t tell the full story and researchers continue to investigate effective means of intervening. This paper reports on a partnership between evaluators and England’s second largest city, Manchester, to develop a continuous realist evaluation design to undertake data mining over a 17-year period. The main purpose was to investigate with whom and in what circumstances the programs of intervention were more or less effective in reducing risk and improving recidivism outcomes for Manchester’s youth.
