Chautauqua Hospice & Palliative Care is staging fundraising performances of Ain’t Missin’ Dinner!, a musical co-written by Tom Andolora, a Fredonia alumnus and Jamestown native, who now resides in NYC.
The plot of the cabaret-style musical performances are set at a convention for the “Chubby and Proud Support Group” at the Hilton Hotel in Savannah, Georgia. Audience members become convention goers as they arrive to “register,” then hear the “testimonials” of other conventioneers!
Ain’t Missin’ Dinner! is a musical parody that was written based on Andolora’s own struggles with weight during his youth. “I’m not making a judgment, and I never poke fun at being heavy,” he said. “I want people to leave with a smile on their faces.” Some of the humorous musical scores are originals and some are clever reworks of Broadway favorites.
The idea of bringing Ain’t Missin’ Dinner! back to local audiences emerged from a mix of strong Hospice and Fredonia ties. Tom Andolora graduated from Fredonia with a BFA in Musical Theatre in 1979. CHPC supporter and former Board President, David Switala, first proposed bringing the cabaret back to local stages as a fundraiser for CHPC. David is a Fredonia alum, as is his wife Marge, who was cast in the previous local production. Bob Terrebery, an accomplished local actor and author who is consulting on the production, is also a Fredonia alum.
In addition to the Fredonia performances, Ain’t Missin’ Dinner! will also be staged in Jamestown on October 5th and 6th at the First Lutheran Church Parlors at 120 Chandler Street. Performances in all locations will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public beginning July 1 when reserved tables of 8 may be purchased for $200. Single tickets will go on sale September 1 for $25. Single tickets will be for general admission seating. All tables and single tickets will be sold through the CHPC website, http://www.chpc.care/event/aint-missin-dinner/ or in person at the CHPC offices in Lakewood.
